Spiritual Growth and Progression

A dear spiritual sister, Barb, suggested an item be written on evolution of the soul. Wow, what an undertaking, I thought, as I realized this blog site has been sorely neglected. So, in the interest of time, this item is not going to be about the evolution of a soul, reincarnated time after time, etc. etc. I am going to write about one’s present life time. This will follow the Native American teaching of the medicine wheel but I’m not going into detail.

A person starts the journey of spiritual growth with an idea, an inspiration, a question, or with revelation from another person, or a book, etc. From that perspective they will seek answers, trusting the universe will give them knowledge to be used. This can come from elders, teachers, written works of respected persons and so forth.

From that point on, one learns to apply the knowledge to their immediate circumstances. This is certainly the most notable portion of growth in the spirit. For, to know something one becomes responsible for putting that knowledge into practice. One applies it to self concepts or puts it on the shelf and has to be reminded again and thus have opportunity to apply it some other time.

Moving forward, the knowledge and practicing that knowledge can be used for deep spiritual healing, and for use in physical and mental healings as well. The knowledge learned is expanded to encompass more than just yourself [relationships -- family, work, society].

Motivation to draw closer to the Divine occurs and you travel towards wisdom. This is the place that “knowing that you know” comes into being because you have lived the principle for a long while. This is the place that you can share your experiences and give others your wisdom to accept or to let go. This is the place that you know that each person’s progression is individual and just sharing your wisdom doesn’t mean it will go heeded. For those in the first part of the journey, you have become one of the respected elders. One of the points of wisdom is knowing when to give and when to let go.

Does a person go about this “wheel” only once? No! One goes about this wheel and this journey time and time again – issue after issue, principle after principle. You may be an elder, sharing information about meditation while being at the point of illumination and questioning on another issue, like healing.

This is my concept of spiritual growth or progression of the soul during one’s life time.
