Skeptical about "The Secret"

The Secret is a compilation of universal truths.....nothing original. It doesn't give any room to several different dogmatic beliefs: karma, reincarnation and choosing beforehand what to learn, nor pre-destination. Cathe, a friend who watched it with me, said she thought it was more like Scientology. (I am not knowledgeable about this.) I bought the book at Sam's Club ($14.95) and it will be a good reminder from time to time.......($23.95 at Barnes & Noble.)
I'm glad I only paid $4.95 for the one-time view on the computer and NOT the $35 for the DVD. I learned many of these truths in the charismatic church I was in..........it all boils down to: you can learn it all, take it in, but you have to ACT on the positive to see things manifest........nothing will just come to you like segments of The Secret portray. Toward the end of the DVD a few of the presenters say you must "act" on things.

Prediction: there will be a "THE SECRET PART 2" -- the author's secret is that she has become a millionaire by publishing this; others who talked of these universals secrets (Lao Tzu, Confucious, Jesus, Mohammed) did not.

Day One (again)

I have four books and two movies and two Dyer CDs to (read, see, listen to) and am going to see THE SECRET dvd today......I have started so many varied projects that I need to PUT ON THE BRAKES -- I have to try to create a safe place for me before I overload.

Things lately have made me crazy -- wondering about myself, my worth, why I'm trying to make others look bad (so I will look better???) [some of you will know what I'm talking about]. I certainly have been missing the mark of service to the universe. I am now on a campaign to put everything -- all the books, DVDs, stories, e-mails, etc. aside JUST TO WORK ON SHIRLEY and get some perspective on who I am. I want to be honest with myself.

So, working on Shirley means just that.......I will be e-mailing the dear ones in my life but I am NOT talking about anything that happened before this very minute in time. I will talk only about myself and my growth (and yours if you care to share). I am going to address one area at at time........I have invested money in The Secret so I am going to see that first; read the book; write about it and then go onto other things.

This is day one of my campaign to regain the Shirley I used to be.

My Friend Jewell's Country Gem

My friend Jewell recently told me of how, as a very young child, she used to walk from her house to her grandparents' house via a country lane. Somehow, by the time she got there she was "sky clad" -- and really enjoying the freedom. Here's a poem she sent to share: Country Lane
You may have been born in the city. You may have not seen a day on the farm.
But, I can tell you how to get there quickly; And it won't do you harm.
Country lane, country lane! What, my friend, is country lane?
It's taking off your clothes & driving down that road. That's what I call country lane.

Life was made for the living; and it's too bad we all can't relate.
But, just because we can't be forgiving, That's no reason to hate.
Country lane, country lane. What, my friend is country lane!
It's taking it all off and working at your job. That's what I call country lane.

I'm sorry some hate their bodies. I'm sorry others love their shame.
But the world should belong to the meek and holy. It's time we stopped honoring the lame.
Country lane, country lane. What, my friend, is country lane?
Its stripping to the buff and enjoying life so much. Thats what I call country lane.

How much do you think freedom should be? Is it worth conflicting with the earth?
Don't tell me it's right to be free; If it means straying from our birth.
Country lane, country lane! What my friend is country lane?
Its wearing only your skin & avoiding the world of sin. That's what I call country lane.

An Original Joke for You -- "The SMITE Button"

Spiritual gifts are being observed more often today as the human race becomes closer to accepting what was once thought to be supernatural. The gifts, however, are tempered with the fruits of the spirit.
The strongest, most life changing gift, the power to smite, is one that is heavily controlled by temperance and longsuffering. Not just any “believer” is given smite power, a.k.a. the lightening bolt. In fact, no one for the past 20 centuries has exhibited this power. This is possibly because no one for the past 20 centuries has had discernment enough to know the proper usage. Indeed, only direct contact with one’s ultimate authority allows this dynamic energy source to flow through one to the extent that charges are emitted from the bearer.
And yet, once the oneness is achieved with the ultimate authority, the need to exhibit this forceful power is eliminated. For knowing the ability is within you to smite as well as to preserve life is true power.
Those grand masters who know the true comedic plan of having the power but not using it give each other the watchword: May the farce be with you!

It's About Time...

Nine months have passed since I last made an entry here. Hmmmmmmm, time enough for a baby to come to full term. Perhaps I needed that time to get over some karmic happenings and now am ready to share again. Following is the introduction to an alternative modalities talk that I will be giving at the area community college.
The information I am passing on to you today has been gained from years of experiential practice. At times you may think it opinionated. Be assured – it is.
Dis-ease is a negative state of being. Everything on the face of this earth can be used to keep a person’s condition in a positive state of well-being. Pets with unconditional love are used for emotional and mental health. Whole, unadulterated foods are consumed for physical well-being. Feeling connected to one’s higher power grants the ability to cope with everyday stress that affects mind, body, and spirit. No matter what method of healing is used, its success depends on the subject’s attitude of acceptance of that method’s power to work and it depends on the intention the practitioner employs.
The human race, from the beginning of time used sticks and stones as oracles to show them the source of pain, phases of the moon to explain emotional problems, touch to soothe the muscles, natural herbal remedies and so forth to help promote healing and to be at-ease with life. They were mystified by their position in the world and sought to connect with the great Creator by forming religions. When troglodytes lapped up the water dripping on their cave walls they didn’t know it was the added minerals consumed that would help them feel better. Cave people knew that soaking in a hot springs would relieve their aches and pains after a mastodon hunt. They learned applying particular crushed weeds on a sprain or cut could alleviate pain and the body fire that we know as infection. Few survived a broken leg or loss of a limb due to a saber tooth tiger attack, an accidental fall, or tribal war wounds however.
With each civilization that has developed, unique methods of relieving pain and illness have evolved. Traveling medicine shows where fake doctors sold “snake oil” and other rhumatiz medicines were common in the 19th century. These remedies were usually 90% alcohol. A combination of herbs became popular and remained so until 20 years ago sold by Lydia Pinkam for menopausal symptoms. This is still being manufactured but not readily available. Sadly, many “pseudo-therapies” springing up today still claim all sorts of positive results.
At one time people were dependant on herbal folk medicine which is known today as alternative healing methods. Allopathic medicine has made leaps and bounds in the past 50 years, with new “wonder” drugs, as they once were called. Vaccinations against life-threatening, crippling dis-eases were discovered and laparoscopic surgery has replaced what is sometimes called primitive methods of only 20 years ago.
While discovering the earth is but one small part of a vast universe, humans have still sought to connect with the Creator. Some alternative methods for healing are attributed to religion and have spiritually-based origins. Unlike allopathic medicine, a patient’s spiritual condition is fully addressed in the healing process.
Be it from your tribe’s shaman, community general practitioner, or technically advanced surgeons, methods employed either work or do not – I believe mostly due to individual psychological beliefs held by patient and practitioner alike. If the patient doesn’t want to heal – she will not.
Once known as “health food nuts,” devotees of alternatives are concerned with enhancing their ability to withstand major illnesses – this contributes to ease in childbearing, longevity, being active in older age, staying mentally alert, and spiritually connected with the universe. They take an active, responsible role in their lifestyle and follow self-developed regimes in conjunction with holistic health practitioners. They take a more totally aware approach to life, desiring to treat the mind, body, and spirit knowing that many of the modalities being used today have their roots from hundreds and even thousands of years ago and have been proven genuinely beneficial for that long period of time.
Homeopathic remedies work well, and have fewer negative reactions, because they work with the body to correct and heal instead of attempting to stop the symptoms of the dis-ease. However, they often take a much longer time to work than allopathic medicines. And many of these chemically based medicines and vaccines bring negative side-effects and further illness symptoms. That being said, unless one is absolutely sure of their physical condition, I believe it would be foolhardy to not take advantage of modern medicine in conjunction with the holistic approach, especially in the area of life-threatening illnesses and accidents.
This ends the introduction to the talk.
